At least four Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were killed and 11 others injured in an attack by unidentified assailants near Kot Lalu in Daraban tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Monday.
According to initial reports, the FC personnel were providing security at a Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) project site when gunmen ambushed them at around 8:40 a.m.
The injured were taken to the Cantonment Military Hospital (CMH) in Dera Ismail Khan, where several are reported to be in critical condition.
Security officials said the attack targeted FC troops deployed to protect an oil and gas exploration site.
Following the assault, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to locate the attackers.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far, although multiple factions of the Pakistani Taliban are active in the region and have carried out similar attacks in the past.
