On the 9th and 10th of May, while global attention was fixated on a potential military confrontation between Pakistan and India, armed militants launched over seventy-one attacks on the Pakistan Army at fifty-one different locations across various districts of Balochistan. These assaults resulted in significant casualties for the Pakistan Army, particularly in the Panjgur region. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attacks, describing them as part of a series of military drills in preparation for “Operation Herof.”
During these well-coordinated and synchronised attacks, the BLA maintained control over key highways for several hours. Military convoys were targeted, trucks carrying minerals were set ablaze, and Frontier Corps outposts came under intense assault. In certain instances, police stations were seized, and the weapons stored there were taken into their possession.
In recent years, Baloch armed groups have moved beyond traditional guerrilla tactics, adopting modern strategies and a more structured approach to their armed struggle. In particular, the BLA’s coordinated operations, advanced tactical methods, and increasing operational capabilities indicate that the group is undergoing systematic preparation for future warfare.
The continued, lethal, and organised attacks across Balochistan reflect the BLA’s growing military prowess, which poses a serious concern for both the Pakistan Army and international corporate entities operating in the region. It is not difficult to infer from these events that such attacks are likely to persist in the near future, with the potential for even greater intensity.
In light of the shifting regional dynamics, the BLA appears to be positioning itself as a decisive actor within Balochistan, actively striving to establish itself as a central force in the emerging geopolitical landscape.
