The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF), a “pro-independence” Baloch armed group, has claimed responsibility for an attack that killed nine Pakistani military personnel, including a major, and injured several others in Balochistan’s Kharan district.

In a statement, BLF spokesperson Major Gwahram Baloch said the skirmish occurred on the morning of December 20 in the Sar Kharan area, near Haro. According to the BLF, the Pakistani military convoy, comprising ten vehicles, entered the area overnight to conduct an operation and attempted to encircle BLF fighters. However, the group claimed its intelligence wing had forewarned its fighters, enabling them to prepare.

“When the military forces tried to encircle the fighters, an intense skirmish erupted, lasting over 45 minutes,” the spokesperson said. “Nine military personnel, including a major, were eliminated, and several others were injured during the clash.”

The BLF said that its fighters successfully broke the encirclement and retreated to a secure location. Following the confrontation, Pakistani military helicopters arrived to evacuate the casualties, transporting the dead and injured to Quetta, the statement added.

Major Gwahram Baloch emphasized the group’s reliance on the support of the local population, claiming this backing enables the BLF to operate effectively across villages and cities in Balochistan. He also highlighted the group’s use of modern organizational structures and combat strategies, stating that these adaptations have allowed the BLF to continue resisting “occupying forces” with growing effectiveness.

“The psychological pressure on the Pakistani military is immense,” the spokesperson claimed. “It is only a matter of time before they are forced to withdraw from Balochistan.”

The BLF concluded its statement by reaffirming its commitment to continued attacks on military forces until the achievement of an independent Balochistan.

The Pakistani military’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has not yet commented on the claims.
