Two people, including the acting governor of Badakhshan province, have been reportedly killed in a suicide bombing in Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan on Tuesday.
Taliban authorities in Afghanistan said that an explosives-laden car bomber had killed at least two people, including the Deputy and Acting Governor Maulvi Nisar Ahmad Ahmadi. Local media confirmed that the deaths occurred around 8:15 AM in Faizabad.
Badakhshan Director of Information and Culture, Muazuddin Ahmadi said the target of the attack was a vehicle carrying the acting governor. The blast killed the governor and his driver and injured six people, Ahmadi said.
Ahmadi said the injured have been shifted to a hospital, and further investigations are underway by intelligence agencies.
The aforementioned suicide attack has not been claimed by any group yet. In the recent past, several Taliban leaders have been killed in such attacks and the IS-K has claimed responsibility.
A blast targeted a vehicle in Badakhshan province in December 2022, killing the head of the provincial security department. The attack was claimed by Daesh.
