An armed attack in the Saravan region of Iranian-administrated (Western Balochistan) has claimed the lives of five Iranian border guards and left two injured, Iranian media sources reported.

The incident took place in the province of Sistan and Balochistan [Western Balochistan]. Reports from the Information and Communication Center of Iran’s Border Guard Forces indicate that the fatalities occurred during an encounter with individuals attempting to infiltrate Iranian territory via the Saravan border area.

Additional details from the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) reveal that, beyond the five confirmed deaths among the border forces, the assailants also suffered casualties. Precise figures, however, are yet to be confirmed. Despite the severity of the confrontation, the attackers have successfully evaded capture and remain at large.

The ISNA further reports that two other Iranian border guards sustained injuries during the incident. Both are in a critical condition and receiving medical attention.

At present, the identity of the attackers remains unknown, and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
