A seven-day long military operation has gripped much of Bolan as the Pakistani security forces plunge through the civilian areas, “destroying everything in their wake.” A large portion of Bolan has been besieged by the forces, and the in and out transport has been blocked. The residents in these areas are running out of essential supplies and edibles and the operation has no end in sight so far.

According to the details, the military operation began seven days ago after a devastating attack on the Pakistani forces in the Marwar area of Bolan on May 31st by the Baloch Liberation Army, a “pro-independence” Ethno-nationalist group struggling for the independence of Balochistan. According to the BLA, its fighters surrounded the forces’ camp and killed everyone inside. They lost three fighters in the confrontation. The photo evidence of the attack confirm that the BLA confiscated a large cache of weaponry from the Pakistani forces.

The Pakistani authorities presented a much smaller figure – eleven fatalities and eight injuries.

Like every other mountainous area of Balochistan, the residents of Bolan depend on agriculture and flock grazing for their bread and butter. They raise their livestock to maturity and sell them in major cities of Balochistan to earn a meagre profit. With much of Bolan cordoned off and transport suspended, these shepherds are running out of essential supplies and food.

The cellular services have also been shut down in the area.

The seven-day long military operation has no end in sight. The land forces are assisted by fighter jets which have bombarded various civilian settlements, leaving behind only dust and smouldering ash. According to sources, the land forces have also opened indiscriminate fire on several houses and burnt down numerous others. Due to the suspension of traffic and shutting down of communication services, the number of fatalists and “enforced disappearances” is hard to confirm.
