The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has said the military siege, curfew, house raids and enforced disappearances in Noshki were part of what it described as a state policy of “collective punishment” against the Baloch people.

In a statement, the group said restrictions in Noshki over the past six months had disrupted daily life, shut down sources of livelihood and limited access to food and medical treatment.

The BYC said the continued extension of the curfew, instead of the restoration of normal life, showed that the Pakistani state was relying on “violence, brutality and siege” to maintain control.

It said Noshki had effectively been turned into an “open prison”, affecting labourers, daily-wage workers, students, patients, women and children.

“Depriving an entire population of the basic necessities of life is the worst form of collective punishment and a clear violation of fundamental human rights,” the statement said.

The statement said recent raids, mass arrests and enforced disappearances by Pakistani forces had worsened the situation, with several people detained and moved to undisclosed locations.

Families of those taken away had been left without information about their whereabouts or condition, it added.

The BYC said enforced disappearances, military siege, curfew and collective punishment were “different aspects of the same state strategy” in Balochistan.

It called on the United Nations, international human rights organisations and the international community to take notice of what it described as serious human rights violations in Noshki and across Balochistan.
