The deputy commissioner of Barkhan district was killed after being abducted by armed fighters at a blockade in Balochistan on Tuesday, a spokesperson for the Balochistan home minister said.
Local sources said armed fighters had set up a blockade near Ghata Chowk in Barkhan, where they stopped and searched vehicles for several hours.
They said the fighters identified Deputy Commissioner Mureed Bugti during the blockade and took him and his guards away.
A spokesperson for Balochistan’s home minister later said Bugti had been killed. The condition of his guards was not immediately known.
No group immediately claimed responsibility.
