The death toll from recent monsoon rains in Balochistan has reportedly risen to 16, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). The casualties include seven children, five men, and four women.
The PDMA reported that the fatalities occurred across seven districts: Zhob, Musa Khel, Loralai, Kohlu, Ziarat, Lasbela, and Khuzdar. In addition to the loss of life, 58 houses have been damaged, with 11 of them completely destroyed.
The rains have also caused damage to standing crops in the affected areas. The PDMA noted that solar panels installed on tube wells have also been affected, and assessments of those losses are currently underway.
Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly, Ghazala Gola, stated that Sohbatpur district has been the worst affected by the rains. In a public statement, she urged the PDMA and other relief agencies to begin immediate relief operations in the area.
