A large number of armed fighters entered the Nafoor area of Balochistan’s Jhal Magsi district on Tuesday and attacked Kotrah Police Station and a rest house belonging to a former governor and chief minister of Balochistan, local sources said.
The attackers used rocket launchers and other weapons, triggering explosions and clashes with police and members of an alleged government-backed armed group.
There was no immediate confirmation of casualties. Jhal Magsi police said the area had been cordoned off and a search operation launched for the attackers.
Pakistani forces, police and alleged government-backed armed groups have previously come under attack in Jhal Magsi, while armed fighters have on several occasions entered and temporarily taken control of parts of the district.
Baloch pro-independence armed groups have claimed responsibility for previous attacks in the area, but no group had claimed Tuesday’s attack at the time of publication.
