Pakistan has urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to take global action against the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), its Majeed Brigade and Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), citing their militant activities as significant threats to “regional security”.

During a session at the UNSC, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Munir Akram, raised concerns about militant activities inside Pakistan, particularly the recruitment and expansion of ISIS in the region. He criticized what he called the selective acknowledgment of “terrorist” threats, questioning why global forums discuss ISIS but fail to address the security threats Pakistan faces from groups like the BLA and TTP.

“The threat of ISIS has expanded beyond the region, yet there is little discussion on the dangers posed to Pakistan by militant groups like BLA and TTP,” Akram stated in his address.

The “pro-independence” Baloch armed group, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), specifically its suicide squad known as the Majeed Brigade, has claimed responsibility for several high-profile attacks, including assaults on Chinese nationals and Pakistani security forces.

In his speech, Akram proposed making the UN General Assembly a subsidiary body for better implementation of global counterterrorism strategies. He emphasized the need for coordinated international efforts to curb terrorist financing, recruitment, and operations that threaten Pakistan’s stability.

Pakistan has repeatedly accused neighboring countries, particularly Afghanistan, of harboring and supporting these militant groups—allegations that Kabul has denied. The call for global action comes amid rising tensions in the region and increased cross-border security concerns.

The UNSC has yet to respond to Pakistan’s demands, but the issue is expected to be discussed further in upcoming sessions.
