Residents of Mand in Balochistan’s district Kech took to the streets on Saturday to protest a recent spate of armed robberies and alleged acts of terrorism, which they claim are happening under the cover of night. The protesters allege that armed groups have been breaking into their homes and looting them, while security forces reportedly refrain from taking action.

The demonstrators voiced frustration, claiming that these groups operate with support at an official level, and asserted that political figures and public representatives are aware of who these armed individuals are and who may be backing their activities. They also questioned the origins of the weaponry and security provisions available to these groups, suggesting that the community at large is aware of the situation.

The protesters warned that if their elected representatives fail to take firm action and ensure the arrest of these armed groups, they will intensify their protests. They also alleged that local security forces have been reluctant to file formal complaints (FIRs) against the assailants. According to the demonstrators, the role of security forces should be to protect citizens, yet many officers seem more focused on their own safety than that of the public.
