Senator Tahir Bizenjo of the National Party has voiced strong criticism of the Pakistani Parliament’s failure to address the ongoing issue of forced disappearances in Balochistan. In a recent statement, he pointed out procedural disruptions in the upper house, which have stifled meaningful debate on this crucial human rights issue.

Bizenjo highlighted that a quorum issue was strategically raised during the latest session to avoid discussion on this sensitive topic. “This is the House of Federation, where we should be able to discuss such important issues,” he stated, underscoring that the avoidance of this topic compromises the Parliament’s integrity and purpose.

Addressing the severity of the situation in Balochistan, Bizenjo spoke poignantly about the immense suffering endured by families affected by the disappearance of their loved ones. He particularly noted the agony of mothers and sisters of missing Baloch individuals, emphasizing that this issue represents a harsh reality that demands attention and resolution, not neglect.

The senator urged the government to engage in constructive negotiations with the leaders of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) to seek a lasting resolution. He cautioned against the potential escalation of tensions and unrest in Balochistan if the situation remains unaddressed, highlighting the risk of ongoing sit-ins and demonstrations evolving into widespread chaos.
