Lawyer Jibran Nasir was picked up in Karachi on Thursday night, his wife Mansha Pasha revealed in a video message on social media.

According to reports, lawyer and rights activist, Jibran Nasir forcibly disappeared allegedly by “unidentified men” in Karachi – his wife Mansha Pasha confirmed the incident in a video released to social media late on Thursday night.

She said that around 15 men in plain clothes with pistols surrounded their vehicle and took forcibly abducted Jibran. She confirmed that the incident occurred when they were returning home after dinner.

Several activists and human rights advocates have expressed strong condemnation over the incident and have launched a social media campaign.

Rabia Mehmood, a journalist and a researcher talking on the incident, also highlighted the enforced disappearance of Baloch women and youths in the city.

Baloch activist Mahrang Baloch accused the state involved in the incident and calls for immediate release.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) condemned the incident and demanded his safe return.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, former premier Imran Khan’s party, also demanded his safe release.

Lawyer Reema Omer said that Jibran Nasir’s abduction is an assault on freedom of expression in Pakistan and demanded his safe release.

It should be mentioned that Jibran has always raised his voice against injustice- he has called for an end to enforced disappearances in Balochistan and recently criticized the crackdown on PTI workers and leaders by the state. He is an outspoken activist known for his unfiltered criticism of Pakistan’s government and the military establishment. He has become a beacon of hope for the country’s underrepresented sections, such as the religious minorities and the Baloch missing persons.

According to reports, Nasir was listed in 2013 by the Foreign Policy Magazine amongst three Pakistanis doing inspirational work against sectarian violence.
