Pakistan has implemented various policies to curb the Baloch insurgency. The resulting consequence of these measures is the frequent occurrence of heart wrenching accidents and incidents in Balochistan.

Recently, Najma Baloch, a school teacher, tragically took her own life in the Geshkoor area of Awaran district, which is known for its underdevelopment and unrest. Najma Baloch’s suicide are attributed to the alleged coercion and threats she faced from Noor Bakhsh, an official of the Balochistan Levies, to work for Pakistan Army’s military intelligence.

Najma Baloch’s case is not an isolated incident in Balochistan. There have been continuous reports implicating state-sponsored death squads, military intelligence, and inter-service intelligence officials in such tragic events. To counter Baloch national struggle, these groups seem to enjoy impunity, leading to further distressing incidents in Balochistan.

Baloch political parties, civil society organizations, and human rights groups have been consistently expressing their concerns and protesting against such incidents. However, both the Balochistan government and the federal government of Pakistan have failed to effectively prevent these occurrences.

These incidents are causing growing anxiety in Balochistan, and there is a potential for significant protests to arise at any moment. It is crucial for Pakistan’s state institutions to reassess their policies, as the current approach not only fails to resolve the Baloch national struggle but also widens the divide between Pakistan and the Baloch people. This situation will only result in increased sympathy and support for the Baloch national independence movement.
