Brahui language’s first Novelist and linguist Gul Bangulzai passed away on Sunday in Quetta. His family has confirmed the news of his death.

86-year-old Gul Bangulzai was known as the Brahui language’s first novelist and he translated plenty of internationally popular books in Brahui. He was also the author of five books in the Brahui language, which is spoken primarily in the central part of Balochistan with smaller communities of speakers scattered in parts of Iran, Afghanistan, and Turkmenistan and by expatriate Brahui communities in Iraq, Qatar, and the UAE. 

Bangulzai was born on August 20, 1936, in Quetta, the capital city of Balochistan. His final prayer will be held in Quetta’s Sabzal Road area.

Gul Bangulzai received his initial education in Quetta and then moved to Lahore for further studies. He successfully received his Bachelor’s and Masters’s Degrees in arts from Punjab University. He also served as the Exam controller at the University of Balochistan in Quetta and the Engineering University in Khuzdar.

Gull Bangulzai wrote his first Novel “Draho”, which earned the title of the first creative novel in Brahui language.

Many artists from Balochistan paid homage to Gul Bangulzai and his life work. They expressed sorrow for his death.
