The Afghan Taliban on Monday declared ‘the war is over in Afghanistan after taking control of the presidential palace in capital Kabul while foreign countries are evacuating their ambassadors.

After the Taliban take over of Kabul, crowds panic rush at Kabul airport to escape Taliban. US forces protecting the airport in Kabul have killed two gunmen in separate incidents, a US official has told Reuters.

According to reports, the Taliban have begun the process of forming a new government in the country after taking over the Kabul as the President Ashraf Ghani fled the country and Afghan forces surrendered.

Ghani later posted on Facebook that he left to avoid bloodshed in the capital.

Taliban have also declared a general amnesty for all Afghans and promised to maintain stability in the country and avoid further violence.

While at the airport, numerous desperate Afghans were seen running alongside a US military plane to get out of the country. The chaos left seven dead, including several who fell from the flight, Senior US military officials said.

Dozens of nations called on all parties involved to respect and facilitate the departure of foreigners and Afghans who wish to leave.

The Taliban spokesperson Mohammad Naeem said the form of the new regime in Afghanistan would be made clear soon, adding the Taliban did not want to live in isolation and calling for peaceful international relations.

“We have reached what we were seeking, which is the freedom of our country and the independence of our people. We will not allow anyone to use our lands to target anyone, and we do not want to harm others,” Naeem said.
