An alarming number of Pakistani security forces have been reportedly seen advancing in district Kharan and Nushki of Balochistan. The patrolling garrisons have also been reinforced, and the air is thick with rumours that a large-scale military operation might soon be underway.

According to the details, the security forces’ convoys have started arriving in Nushki since Sunday. The patrolling squadrons have also been reinforced in several towns, including Ahmad Wal, Mal and Reqo.

Similar circumstances also pervade district Kharan as the military convoys continue to arrive in the area. On Monday, the forces reportedly blockaded several areas located in the proximity of Kharan.

The authorities have not yet commented on the developments, but it is suspected that a large-scale military operation might soon be underway in Balochistan.

The speculations have been somewhat validated by the recent arrival of Pakistani Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed to Quetta and his subsequent meeting with the inspector general of the Frontier Corps and other high-ranking officials. Rasheed visited the FC headquarters on Sunday morning where he met with the Inspector General of the FC Balochistan, Major General Mohammad Yousaf Majoka.

The interior minister was briefed on the military operation preparations, the surveillance of the borders and the overall law and order situation in Balochistan. Speaking on the occasion, Rasheed said that all the required steps will be taken to ensure long-lasting and durable peace in Balochistan. He said that the implementation of the National Action Plan – an action plan introduced by the government of Pakistan to crack down on ‘terrorism’ – in Balochistan will be ensured. He said that interprovincial communication and cooperation will also be promoted.

The arrival of the Pakistani interior minister to Balochistan and subsequent meeting with the FC officials have raised the alarm that a wide-ranging military operation might be imminent in Balochistan.

Reliable sources have revealed that the military institutions have decided to carry out a massive military operation in various areas of Balochistan – namely Harnai, Bolan, Kalat, Mastung, Makran and Kohlu. The decision was reportedly made after the consecutive crushing attacks on the security forces in Bolan and its environs, and to protect the developments of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Since the beginning of 2021, several military operations have been carried out in the aforementioned areas. These operations were carried out by large regiments of the Pakistani security forces and military choppers were also used in the operations.
