An attack in Afghanistan’s northern province of Takhar has targeted a convoy of the provincial police chief, killing at least 43 personnel including deputy police chief Raz Mohammad Durandesh.

Provincial officials said Raz Mohammad Durandesh, the province’s deputy police chief was killed in a clash with the Taliban.

Takhar police spokesman, Khalil Aseer said that the incident took place during a clash between security forces and the Taliban in Baharak district of Takhar Province.

He said that along with Durandesh, several of his guards were also killed in the clash.

He added that the area was under the control of security forces where the attack took place.

The Afghan Taliban have also reportedly suffered heavy casualties in the clash, but the number of casualties is yet to be confirmed.

Whereas, a day earlier, twelve officials including the district police chief were also killed in Nimroz, a province borders Iran. This attack came after the attack on Monday, which resulted in killing the governor of Zazi Maidan district of Khost province.

According to officials, the governor was ambushed and killed by unknown gunmen in Al-Tamur area of ​​Logar district while he was traveling to the capital, Kabul.
