A talented doctor, who had only recently completed her medical degree, has become the latest victim of Balochistan’s deadly roads.

According to details, Dr Shahr Bano Baloch was travelling from Khuzdar to her clinic in Wehr on Saturday morning when their car was hit by another vehicle. Due to impact of the collision Dr Bano lost her life while her brother was injured.

Dr Bano was currently the Medical Officer of Wehr locality.

Her friends and colleagues have expressed grief and have termed it a great loss to the society. Student leader Dr Mahrang Baloch said that Dr Bano was an asset to Baloch nation and questioned how many more lives will be lost due to the deadly roads.

Social activist Nimra Pirkani, who herself recently received severe injuries in a road accident on the same highway, tweeted that accidents in Balochistan are made to be happen.

She continued that until and unless roads in Balochistan are not doubled we will continue to carry dead bodies of assets of Balochistan.

The dilapidated condition of old roads are the main reason of road accidents in Balochistan. The roads were built decades ago for few vehicles. The population has since increased manifolds, but the roads have almost never been upgraded. The 813km long N-25 highway, also known as the RCD highway, is the major carriageway in Balochistan. This road was built more than 30 years ago for small traffic. It now caters for thousands of heavy vehicles every day, and therefore is one of the most dangerous roads of Balochistan.

Majority of highways in Balochistan are single carriageways, which are very narrow with no divider between both lanes. Such roads are one of the major contributors of road accidents in Balochistan.
