At least nine civilians were killed and two others were injured in two roadside bomb blasts in southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan on Friday, officials said.

Kandahar governor’s spokesman Bashir Ahmadi said the incident took place when a civilian vehicle was traveling from Kandahar’s Great Karez area to the Spin Boldak district for a wedding.

He said the vehicle struck a roadside bomb in the Spin Boldak area, killing eight civilians and injuring two others.
Ahmadi said the car was carrying three children, five women and five youths from the same family.

According to Ahmadi, a second bomb exploded on a Mazda vehicle in the same area, killing the driver.

Kandahar provincial officials have blamed the Taliban for planting the bomb, but the Taliban have not yet commented, nor has any other group claimed responsibility for the blasts.
