Two missing persons from Washuk and kech districts of Balochistan have been released.

According to details received by The Balochistan post, two missing persons were released from detention on Sunday from Washuk and Kech districts of Balochistan.

“Abdul Aziz s/o Mulla Khan, who was abducted on 12 March 2018 by Pakistani forces from Uthal city of Balochistan, has been released today and reached his home,” family confirmed.

Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP), a campaign group by families of Baloch missing persons, has confirmed the release of Abdul Aziz and mentioned that another person named , Khalid Baloch, Lecturer at Uthal University was also abducted along with Abdul Aziz, who is still missing.

VBMP claims that tens of thousands of Baloch men, women and children are under custody of Pakistani forces.

Mama Qadeer, VBMP’s leader, is currently in Geneva to raise the missing persons issue with UN authorities and other international bodies.

In another news, a man has been released from detention after 2 years from Kech district of Balochistan on Saturday.

The released person has been identified as Ameer s/o Mohammed Umar, resident of Dasht area of district Kech.

According to local reports, while few dozen people have returned homes in last couple of months, others have gone missing.

Former Chief Minister of Balochistan, currently member of Pakistan’s National Assembly and president of Balochistan National Party, Akhter Mengal also expressed his concerns over the disappearances in a tweet on the international day of enforced disappearance: “On #EnforcedDisappearancesDay I pray that the lost return home. My family has been waiting for 40 years and like my family there are many more. After my agreement many missing persons have been released HOWEVER many have been abducted as well – this wasn’t part of the agreement”.

The term ‘missing persons’ is widely used in Balochistan to connote arrests made by security forces as the arrested are not presented before court of law and instead kept under incommunicado detention in military camps.

On International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances The International Human Rights Council, Hong Kong (IHRC-HK) also expressed concerns over enforced disappearance in Pakistan and called upon the state institutions to play an active role in the recovery of all the missing persons.
