CPJ has condemned ‘tragic killing’ of two Afghan journalists in yesterday’s twin blasts in Afghanistan and has said that the journalists are repeatedly targeted by a cynical enemy in the country.

Committee to Protect Journalist, an independent, nonprofit organization that promotes press freedom worldwide, said in a statement on Wednesday that “Afghan journalists have shown incredible bravery covering the news while being repeatedly targeted by a cynical enemy.”

Earlier two TOLO news journalists Samim Faramarz, journalist, and Ramiz Ahmadi, cameraman, lost their lives in an explosion in Kabul city night while covering an earlier bombing.

“This latest tragic killing of two TOLO News journalists, Samim Faramarz and Ramiz Ahmadi, underscores the extreme dangers facing Afghan journalists,” said Steven Butler, CPJ’s Asia program coordinator.

This is second incident of 2018, where journalists and first-responders are targeted after bomb attacks. In April this year, a bomber disguised as a member of the media set off his explosives among a group of journalists who had arrived to cover the earlier blast, killing at least 9 journalists.

CPJ considers Afghanistan as deadliest country for journalists in 2018.
