Armed fighters seized five commercial vehicles on the Quetta-Taftan highway in Chagai and detained workers building a post for Pakistani forces in Kharan in separate incidents on Friday, local sources said.
The five vehicles were stopped at Charsar in the Dalbandin area of Chagai. Three were travelling from Quetta towards Taftan, while the other two were heading from Taftan to Quetta.
All five were carrying commercial goods, an informed source told The Balochistan Post.
The incident comes amid repeated attacks and blockades affecting commercial traffic on major highways in Balochistan over the past four months.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for many of those attacks since announcing what it described as an “economic blockade” on Balochistan’s main highways.
Vehicles carrying oil and gas from Iran, coal and other minerals from Balochistan, and commercial goods have repeatedly been stopped, seized or attacked during that period. Pakistani forces deployed to protect such transport have also been targeted.
However, no group had claimed responsibility for the Chagai seizures at the time of publication.
Separately, the Kharan incident took place at around 2pm on Friday in the Albat area, where employees of a construction company were working on the post.
Armed fighters arrived at the site, detained the employees and took them to an undisclosed location, according to local sources.
No details were immediately available about the number of employees detained or their current condition. No group had claimed responsibility for the incident, while government authorities had not officially confirmed or denied it.
