The Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) has demanded an independent investigation into the death of Muhammad Sudais, whose family alleges he was forcibly disappeared and subsequently killed in a staged encounter.

His father, Muhammad Ashraf, addressed a press conference at the VBMP protest camp alongside other families of missing persons and VBMP Chairman Nasrullah Baloch.

Ashraf said his son was detained from the family home on Madrasah Road in Killi Ismail during the night of May 19–20 this year. He said Sudais was taken away in front of family members on the pretext of questioning and transferred to an undisclosed location.

His son’s disappearance case was pending before the commission concerned, with a hearing scheduled for the day of the press conference, Ashraf said. However, he said the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) submitted a report to the commission claiming that Sudais and five others had been killed in an encounter with Pakistani forces in Aghbarg on August 20.

According to Ashraf, the report stated that Sudais’s body had been handed over to the Edhi Foundation for burial.

He rejected the encounter account, alleging that his son had been killed extrajudicially following his enforced disappearance and that his body had subsequently been buried. He described the case as a serious violation of the Constitution, the law and fundamental human rights.

Ashraf demanded a transparent and impartial investigation, legal action against those responsible and the return of his son’s body.

Speaking at the press conference, Nasrullah Baloch said the alleged disappearance of a person followed by a report of their death in an encounter was a serious matter requiring an independent investigation.

If Sudais had been accused of an offence, the state was responsible for presenting him before a court and giving him a full opportunity to defend himself, he said.

The VBMP chairman called for a judicial or independent inquiry into Sudais’s detention, disappearance, reported killing and burial. He demanded that all relevant facts be made public and that personnel found responsible face legal action.

He also urged the authorities to verify the body’s identity, burial records and other relevant evidence, and return Sudais’s remains to his family so they could carry out his burial rites.

Nasrullah said enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings could only be addressed through respect for the Constitution and the law, transparent accountability and justice for affected families.

The allegations come amid wider concerns raised by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) over civilian killings in Balochistan. In its six-month report covering January to June 2026, the organisation documented 150 civilian deaths, including 15 minors.

The BYC said at least 48 people were victims of what it described as the “kill and dump” practice, in which people were forcibly disappeared and later found dead, often bearing signs of torture. It also attributed 20 deaths to alleged staged encounters.
