Local women in Kohad village of Tump tehsil, Kech district, reportedly apprehended three armed men accused of attempting to assassinate a youth named Tanveer Nazar. The men are alleged to be members of a state-backed armed group commonly referred to by locals and political groups as a “death squad.”
Footage circulating on social media shows the three suspects with their hands tied, surrounded by a crowd. The video also depicts scenes of the suspects being beaten. One of the men is seen speaking on camera, admitting they had travelled from Nasirabad to Kohad, where they approached Tanveer Nazar’s home and called him outside. However, local women grew suspicious and intervened, eventually detaining all three.
According to area residents, Kohad has previously witnessed violence at the hands of unidentified gunmen, including an incident in which seven individuals were shot dead. Locals suspect that the apprehended men are part of the same group responsible for those killings.
Community members and activists have long alleged that such armed groups operate with the backing of Pakistani security forces and intelligence agencies. These so-called “death squads” are accused of involvement in targeted killings, enforced disappearances, and other acts of violence in Balochistan.
