A young man has gone missing after reportedly being detained by Pakistani forces in the Kech district of Balochistan. The individual, identified as Kambar, son of Umeed, was allegedly taken into custody during a raid by law enforcement in the Buleda Bug area of Kech around 1 AM on Wednesday. Since then, his whereabouts and condition remain unknown.
This incident is part of a troubling pattern of enforced disappearances in Balochistan, where such cases are frequently reported. On Wednesday, two more individuals were reportedly detained by Pakistani forces in Kharan, sparking a sit-in protest by their families in the Kharan Red Zone. These individuals, identified as Lakhmir, son of Haji Saleh, and Khudadad, son of Musa, were allegedly taken from the Kharan Bazaar on Wednesday and transferred to an undisclosed location, the families reported.
In response to these detentions, the families of the missing youths have organized a protest, leading to the complete closure of the Kharan Secretariat Junction and the Red Zone. Despite attempts by the administration to negotiate with the protestors, the talks have so far been unsuccessful, and the sit-in continues. The families have declared that they will not end their protest until their loved ones are safely recovered.
Recent weeks have seen a rise in reports of enforced disappearances across Balochistan, including cases from Gwadar, Uthal, and Quetta, raising concerns about human rights violations in the region.
