Sarwar Baloch, known professionally as Kamanchar, a renowned photographer from Balochistan, has died at the age of 25 after a prolonged illness. Kamanchar passed away on Tuesday in a hospital in Karachi, leaving behind a legacy of capturing the essence of Balochistan through his lens.

Born in Tehsil Mand of Balochistan’s Kech district on November 25, 1998, Kamanchar Baloch discovered his passion for photography amidst the unexplored beauty and untold stories of his region.

Initially capturing moments on his humble mobile phone, Kamanchar’s desire to highlight the soul of Balochistan led him to transition to professional photography in 2015. He was committed to showcasing both the beauty and the struggles of his homeland, a mission he spoke passionately about in an interview last year with The Balochistan Post.

Kamanchar’s work spans the diverse landscapes of Balochistan—from the snowy mountains of Quetta to the beaches of Gwadar and Makuran’s “Princess of Hope”—and has garnered considerable acclaim. His photographs have been exhibited in several cities across Balochistan, Sindh, and Punjab.

His photographs vividly capture Balochistan’s landscapes alongside the culture and arts of its people, from the intricate embroidery of Baloch women to the traditional craftsmanship of men, including Balochi shoes and turbans. Having covered 95% of Balochistan’s territories, his images bring forth the vibrant colors, the resilience of its people, and the stark realities they face.

When asked by The Balochistan Post last year why much of his work revolves around identity politics and Balochistan, he replied, “I am a Baloch! I want all my pictures and videos to have the scent of Balochistan, and I want this scent to spread all over the world.”
