Members of the proscribed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan were shot by alleged Pakistani intelligence agents in the Helmand province of Afghanistan, according to sources

According to reports, one TTP member was injured in the attack, while others escaped unscathed. The Afghan Taliban forces reportedly cornered one of the attackers while the other managed to flee.

The TTP member injured in the attack was identified as Muhammad Sadiq Mengal, a native of Mastung in Balochistan.

The Pakistani security agencies have reportedly carried out multiple intelligence-based operations against the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan operatives in Afghanistan. Earlier in August, TTP leaders Mullah Umar Khalid Khurasani, Hafiz Doulat Khan, Mulla Hasan, Mullah Ameer and Maulana Uqabi were killed in two separate attacks in Kannar and Logar areas of Afghanistan. Similarly, TTP leader Abdul Wahab Larak alias Hakeem Sindhi was killed in Kandahar in March.

Baloch immigrants have also faced multiple attacks at the hands of alleged Pakistani intelligence agents. In January, unknown assailants opened fire on a group of Baloch refugees in the Nimruz province of Afghanistan, killing a young man identified as Jalamb s/o Malik Marri. Jalamb’s family has been living as refugees in Afghanistan for the past decade.

The Afghanistan government detained three individuals for their involvement in planning and carrying out the attack that killed Jalamb.

The Afghan Taliban have also detained alleged Pakistani agents for their involvement in attacks on Baloch diaspora. In September, the Taliban confirmed that they had arrested two Pakistani agents who disguised themselves as Taliban and routinely visited the houses of Baloch immigrants.

The Taliban said the two detainees had confessed during the investigation that they were funded and sent by Pakistani intelligence agencies to target Baloch refugees in Afghanistan. The detainees also identified key officials of the Pakistani embassy in Kabul who gave them the addresses of Baloch refugees.
