Baloch students have been protesting in the biting cold provincial capital Quetta for the past two weeks against the Pakistan Medical Commission. The students are protesting against the PMC’s decision to take separate tests for three medical colleges, the Khuzdar, Loralai and Turbat colleges, in Balochistan. These three colleges are not registered by the PMC, so students at these colleges will attempt a separate test administered by the Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University in Islamabad. Medical students in other parts of the country will attempt the National Medical and Dental College Admission Test (NMDCAT) which is conducted by the Pakistan Medical Commission.

The students say that the announcement by the PMC has made the medical students anxious. We have been protesting for the past two weeks, but the government has failed to pay heed to our demands.

The students said that the governor of Balochistan called on the protestors and assured them that their demands will be met, but no progress has been made to fulfil the promises. The students, however, are adamant that they will not budge until the government takes their demands seriously.

The students said that it has been more than a year, but these three colleges are still not registered by the Pakistan Medical Commission. The authorities are now taking their failure out on the students, they said.
