The Baloch Student Organization Azad (BSO-Azad) said in a recent media statement that the Pakistani state is violating all the human rights and national values of Baloch citizens in Balochistan. The Baloch youth are being abducted and kept in confinement for years – and now the Pakistani are forces are using their undisputed authority to summon Baloch women to their camps for the sake of dishonouring them, the statement read.
Referring to a ghastly incident in Awaran where a helpless father had killed himself after Pakistani forces forced him to bring his daughter to their camp, the BSO-Azad said that this incident is not the first such incident of its kind, but the continuation of a decades-long story of oppression and tyranny. The Pakistani state’s “regime of oppression” in Balochistan is gaining steam, and the world institutions have maintained a deafening silence in the face of these crimes, the statement said.
In a grievous incident in district Awaran on Thursday, a helpless father committed suicide after the Pakistani forces pressured him to bring his young daughter to their camp. The victim, Noor Jan, a resident of the Haroon Dann area of Awaran, was allegedly abducted by the Pakistani security forces along with his son and a relative. The forces broke one of his legs and physically tortured him to such an extent that both of his kidneys failed.
Noor Jan’s daughter is wedded to a Baloch freedom fighter. After torturing him to exhaustion, the Pakistani forces released him on the condition that he will bring his daughter to their camp. Unable to bear this dishonour, Noor Jan hung himself to escape the shame and loss of dignity that this act would have caused. In his final message to the Pakistani security forces, Noor Jan said: “I can’t hand over my daughter to you. You can come and take my dead body.”
Baloch Student Organization Azad vehemently condemned the incident, saying that the oppression in Balochistan has reached into a grisly stage. “Noor Jan ended his life to save the dignity and honour of his household”, BSO-Azad said in the statement. “The Baloch youth are abducted and confined for years, and now the Baloch women are being forcefully summoned to military cantonments where their honour could be threatened.”
BSO-Azad said that the Pakistani state has created “an environment of terror” in Balochistan – they breach the privacy of Baloch households to forcefully detain the youth and the women of the house are harassed. The state has given a free hand to its death squads in Balochistan, thus further putting the security of the people at risk. The statement said that due to the deafening silence of world institutions, the oppression in Balochistan has further gained momentum.
Concluding the statement, BSO-Azad said that the international human rights groups must hold Pakistan accountable for its war crimes in Balochistan.
