At least seven people have died and more than four others have been injured in rain-related incidents across Balochistan during the recent monsoon spell, according to official reports. Widespread damage to homes, infrastructure and agricultural land has also been recorded in several districts.

A report issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed that one child was killed by lightning in Dhadar, in Kachhi district. In Zhob, another child died when the roof of a room collapsed, while several others sustained injuries.

In Tehsil Bala Nari, flooding caused by a breach in the embankment of the Nari River led to significant destruction. More than 100 houses were affected, around 400 acres of agricultural land were inundated, and over 50 livestock were reported killed.

In Harnai district, heavy rainfall damaged more than 60 houses. Continuous downpours also led to the closure of roads linking Harnai with Sanjavi and Quetta, while several internal roads were disrupted.

According to the PDMA, flash flooding has occurred in seasonal streams across Harnai, Chaman and Qila Abdullah, raising water levels in low-lying areas to dangerous levels.

In Qila Abdullah district, heavy rainfall triggered severe flooding, with rising water levels reported in Qila Abdullah Bazaar, Habibzai, Abdul Rahmanzai, Gulistan, Arambi and Toba Achakzai. Strong flood currents were observed in Machka, Arambi, Baghk and Gulistan Karez.

Rescue operations were carried out in several areas. Near Gulistan, a minibus carrying 15 passengers, including women and children, was safely recovered from floodwaters. Two additional vehicles were also rescued from the Machka stream.

The PDMA stated that emergency relief assistance is being provided to affected families. Heavy machinery has been deployed to repair the damaged embankment of the Nari River in Kachhi, while damage assessments are ongoing.

Relief Commissioner and PDMA Director General Jahanzeb Khan Ghori said the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre remains fully operational and is coordinating with district authorities to oversee relief efforts.

Meanwhile, the provincial Home Department has issued an alert for further rainfall and potential flooding, placing rescue services on standby to respond to any emergencies.
