Anti-terrorism court in Sindh remanded PTM leaders in police custody over allegedly using provocative language against Pakistan Army.

According to police,  Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) leaders, including MNA Ali Wazir, Noor Tareen, Sher Ayub Hussain and Basirullah are detained for allegedly using undesirable and defametory language against state institutions and the Pakistan Army during a rally in Karachi on 9 December.

Member of Pakistan’s National Assembly, Ali Wazir was reportedly arrested from Peshawar on the request of the Sindh police in connection with the case and was moved to Karachi last Friday.

The detained PTM lawmaker and others were produced before the administrative judge of the anti-terrorism court by the investigating officer, on Saturday to seek their physical remand for interrogation and investigation.

However, the judge remanded them in police custody till December 30 with directions to the IO to produce them on the next date along with an investigation report.

PTM striving for “an end to enforced disappearances, killings and abuses of civilians, as well as for the military to abide by the constitution”.

The Pakistani military has accused the PTM of having the support of Afghanistan and India and being involved in anti-state activities, which the party denies and terms those allegations as “government propaganda.”

PTM leaders have been under attack allegedly by Pakistani state institutions including army and intelligence agencies.

In May this year, Ali Wazir’s cousin Arif Wazir was shot in front of his home, who later succumbed to the injuries in Islamabad.
