Cancer has consumed at least four lives in a short span of only one week in Khuzdar.

Hundreds of others are also fighting for their lives against the lethal disease in Khuzdar and adjoining areas.

According to local TBP correspondent, at least four people have become recent victims of cancer disease in a week in Wadh, Khuzdar. The victims include one female and three males.

Mohammad Ameen Raisani, Noor Ahmed Mengal, Mohammad Rafeeq Langove and wife of Mohammad Aslam were identified as the latest victims.

Social activist, Nazeer Ahmed Nathwani, who works for the welfare of cancer victims, has said that their are hundreds of patients suffering from the lethal disease in Wadh, Zehri, Aaranji, Karkh, Naal, Baghbana, Zehri, Parko and Moola areas of Khuzdar.

‘The victims are waiting for a messiah but there is no ray of hope,’ he said.

Balochistan does not have even a single cancer hospital and patients are deprived of quality treatment as they are unable to travel to other areas of Pakistan due to poverty.

Mr. Nathwani said that cancer is increasingly spreading in Khuzdar. He urged that a special team should be sent to the area to investigate the cause of this spread. ‘The existing patients should be treated on emergency basis,’ he said.

In last few years, scores of people have become victim to cancer all over in Balochistan and particularly in Khuzdar and Chaghi districts.

Local activists allege that spread of cancer has spiked manifolds in Chaghi since Pakistan carried out nuclear tests in the region in May 1998.

On other hand, American think tank, The Institute for Science and International Security, has reported presence of underground complex in Khuzdar to serve as a ballistic missile and nuclear war-head storage site.
