Former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif has been granted special permission to meet his family members in the Adiala jail in Rawalpindi on Friday.

Geo News quoted sources as saying that Sharif’s family had filed a plea to meet the jailed leader and his daughter, Maryam Nawaz, in the prison. Subsequently, the prison authorities gave permission and apprised the jail superintendent of the same. The father-daughter duo is currently serving their prison sentences in the same jail after being convicted in the Avenfield reference case.

Earlier on Wednesday, Sharif’s brother and Pakistan Muslim-League (Nawaz) president Shehbaz Sharif and his family met the father-daughter duo in Adiala jail, sources added.

On July 6, Sharif and Maryam were convicted in absentia in the Avenfield case by the Accountability Court. While the three-time Pakistan prime minister was given 10 years of imprisonment and slapped with a fine of eight million pounds, his daughter was awarded eight years in jail and fined two million pounds.
