Pakistan’s military on Sunday claimed that eight suspected militants were killed in three separate operations in Balochistan’s Quetta, Nushki and Khuzdar districts on Saturday.
In a statement, the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said Pakistani forces intercepted armed men allegedly attempting to establish a roadblock in the Panjpai area of Quetta district, killing five of them.
In Nushki district, Pakistani forces raided what the military described as a militant hideout, killing two suspected militants during an exchange of fire. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered, the ISPR statement added.
Local sources confirmed clashes and the deaths of two men in Nushki. However, their identities and the circumstances of their deaths could not be independently established.
In a separate operation in Khuzdar district, Pakistani forces targeted another suspected militant hideout, killing one person and recovering 490 kilograms of explosives, the ISPR said.
The military did not disclose the identities of those killed, while its casualty claims in Quetta and Khuzdar could not be independently verified.
The ISPR said clearance operations were continuing in the affected areas and that Pakistani forces would continue military operations under the government’s “Azm-e-Istehkam” campaign.
