Veteran Baloch nationalist leader Dr Hakim Lehri was laid to rest on Thursday, with Baloch and Pashtun political figures, activists and civil society representatives attending his funeral prayers and burial.
His coffin was draped in the Balochistan flag. Those in attendance included National Party president Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, BNP leaders Sana Baloch and Wali Kakar, and Awami National Party leader Asghar Achakzai, alongside other political and social figures, relatives and local residents.
Attendees paid tribute to Lehri’s decades-long involvement in Balochistan’s political and national struggle.
Lehri died in Karachi on Wednesday evening after a prolonged illness. He spent decades advocating Baloch national rights and political autonomy, maintaining longstanding ties with nationalist leaders and activists.
A close political associate of veteran Baloch nationalist leader Sardar Ataullah Mengal, Lehri was involved in nationalist politics as it emerged as a major political force in Balochistan following the abolition of the One Unit system.
Over the years, he frequently recounted developments he had witnessed or participated in, including nationalist struggles during the 1970s, differences among Baloch leaders and subsequent political crises in Balochistan.
