The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has expressed concern over what it described as repeated and unexplained delays in the hearing of bail applications and other constitutional petitions involving its leadership before the Balochistan High Court.
In a statement, the organisation said several cases concerning its leaders had been listed for hearing on multiple occasions, including before Court No. 1, headed by the Chief Justice. However, it claimed that proceedings did not take place and that the cause lists were discharged, resulting in the cases being adjourned to later dates.
The BYC said bail applications filed by its leaders after the Quetta Anti-Terrorism Court rejected their pleas in February this year had been scheduled for hearing on approximately five occasions. According to the organisation, each hearing was subsequently deferred after the court board was discharged.
It further stated that several constitutional petitions related to the organisation had remained pending for extended periods without substantive hearings or decisions.
The organisation described the repeated postponement of the bail applications as a matter of legal concern, particularly as the cases involve individuals who remain in custody. It argued that bail matters should be considered without undue delay and that prolonged adjournments could affect the rights of the accused.
The BYC further said that repeated postponements contribute to uncertainty for litigants and place additional pressure on the judicial system, particularly in cases involving fundamental rights and personal liberty.
It called on the Balochistan High Court to hear and decide the pending bail applications and constitutional petitions at the earliest opportunity, in accordance with the law and constitutional safeguards.
The organisation said it remained committed to pursuing legal and peaceful means to protect fundamental rights and called for timely, transparent and effective proceedings in cases pending before the court.
