A man experiencing mental health issues was shot dead by Pakistan Coast Guards personnel near a camp in Pasni, local sources said, alleging that his family was later pressured not to make the incident public.
The victim was identified as Meraj, son of Mohammad Mayar and a resident of Pasni.
Sources said Meraj left his home late at night on Thursday and reached an area near a Coast Guards camp, where personnel reportedly considered him suspicious and opened fire.
Meraj was killed at the scene, according to the sources.
The following morning, Coast Guards personnel transferred his body to Pak-Oman Hospital, where it was handed over to his family with local residents acting as intermediaries, the sources said.
Local sources said Meraj had been experiencing mental health issues, which they believed explained why he had left his home during the night.
They further alleged that the family faced threats and pressure following the shooting and consequently kept the incident from becoming public.
No official report or statement concerning the shooting had been issued at the time of publication, and the Pakistan Coast Guards had not publicly responded to the allegations.
