The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has alleged that 15-year-old Saif Jan, son of Faiz Muhammad and a resident of Chitkan in Panjgur district, was extrajudicially killed after being subjected to three months of enforced disappearance.
According to a statement issued by the BYC, Saif Jan was allegedly forcibly disappeared during the month of Ramadan. The group claimed that his body was found on Airport Road on June 29, 2026, after approximately three months in disappearance. BYC further alleged that he was killed by “death squads”, term use for the state-backed militias.
The committee strongly condemned what it described as the enforced disappearance and extrajudicial killing of the teenager. It also questioned why, according to its statement, authorities pursue legal action against BYC leaders while those allegedly responsible for such killings are not held accountable.
The BYC called on international human rights organizations and the international community to take immediate notice of the situation in Balochistan, asserting that residents of the region continue to face serious human rights violations.
It should be mentioned that Saif Jan’s case marks the 10th reported incident by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) in June in which individuals who were allegedly subjected to enforced disappearance were later found dead with signs of torture or were reported killed in what rights groups describe as staged encounters across Balochistan. The reported periods of disappearance ranged from several days to several months.
Enforced disappearances have been a longstanding issue in Balochistan, with numerous cases documented over the past two decades. Local rights groups and international human rights organizations have repeatedly raised concerns over allegations implicating Pakistani military forces and intelligence agencies in enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings. Pakistani authorities have consistently denied involvement in such allegations or rejected the accusations, while calling for evidence and maintaining that security operations are conducted in accordance with the law.
There has been no official response from Pakistani authorities regarding the incident.
