French newspaper Le Monde has reported that Baloch human rights activist Mahrang Baloch has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for a second consecutive year.

The report noted that the nomination comes at a time when Dr Baloch has been sentenced to life imprisonment in Pakistan after being convicted in a terrorism and murder case.

According to Le Monde, the trial was conducted inside a prison facility and was closed to the public, with journalists and family members reportedly not permitted to attend. Defence lawyers have described the proceedings as lacking transparency and fairness and have announced their intention to appeal the verdict.

Dr Baloch has been a prominent campaigner on issues including enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings and alleged human rights violations in Balochistan. Supporters of her nomination say it reflects international recognition of her advocacy and activism.

The report stated that this is the second consecutive year in which Dr Baloch has reportedly been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, a distinction viewed by supporters as acknowledgement of her efforts to highlight human rights concerns through peaceful advocacy.

International human rights organisations have also expressed concern over the life sentence handed down to Dr Baloch. Several groups have criticised the verdict, describing it as part of a broader crackdown on dissent, and have called for her release.
