At least six people, including four policemen, were injured in a grenade attack on a police van in Usta Mohammad district of Balochistan, officials said on Monday.
According to police, unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle hurled a grenade at a police mobile near the railway gate in the jurisdiction of the City Police Station. The blast injured four policemen and two passersby. The injured, identified as Abdul Nabi, Qadir Bakhsh, Abdullah, Bahram and two others, were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police said the vehicle was damaged in the explosion. Security forces later cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers. An investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, the Baloch Republican Guards (BRG), an armed group, claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement issued to media outlets. The group said its fighters had targeted the police patrol vehicle and warned of further attacks if, according to them, police continued to harass locals.
