The Hindu religious festival of goddess Kalimata has kicked off in Balochistan’s Kalat. The festival is the annual gathering of the Hindu community in Balochistan and sees people coming from different areas of Pakistan to participate.

According to details, the three-day festival began on Tuesday and would end on Thursday. Thousands of Hindu devotees gather in Kalat at this time of the year to pray, sing hymns and celebrate the greatness of the Hindu goddess Kalimata.

Kalat is densely populated with a significant Hindu minority who live peacefully with the local Muslims. The Hindus have been living there for centuries, and a few of their most important religious temples are also located in Kalat.

The Hindus also appreciate Balochistan’s religiously tolerant and secular environment, which they claim has allowed them to live and practice their religion peacefully.

Hindu devotees have also put-up stalls where they sell a variety of food items and memorabilia. The locals have also set up a community kitchen where they are serving meals free of charge.

The local Hindu pundits say two such festivals of Kalimata occur in Asia – one in Kolkata, India, and the other one in Kalat.
