A resident of the Lasbela district of Balochistan committed suicide on Sunday.

According to reports, the head constable of Lasbela police, Rehmatullah s/o Ghulam Muhammad ended his life by hanging himself to a tree.

The police said that they are investigating the motives behind the incident, but the reasons have not been known so far. While the police handed over the dead body to the heirs after the necessary procedure.

It is the second incident of suicide in one week. Before this, a girl from Kech district of Balochistan committed suicide after failing exams. During the last two years, the suicide rate has seen a rise across Balochistan. According to the data collected by The Balochistan Post, the cases have exceeded fifty this year.

As per data, the suicide rate among youths is higher. The reasons behind the rise in suicide in Balochistan are many but the prominent reasons are said to be an insurgency in Balochistan and the counter-insurgency policies of the state — which include enforced disappearances, kill and dumps etcetera. In such situations in the region, extreme poverty and unemployment only add more to it.
