Two Baloch students of Karachi University, who had been reportedly disappeared by Pakistani forces, have returned home.

Two students named as Doda Baloch son of Elahi Bakhsh and his fellow Gamshad Baloch son of Ghani Baloch are students of Philosophy at Karachi university and they hail from Kech district of Balochistan. Both the students were reportedly detained by Pakistani security forces during a raid at their residence in Maskan Chowrangi area of Karachi on June 7. As per reports, they were moved to an unknown location by the forces.

It is to be noted that hundreds of students and activists tried to march from Karachi Press Club to Sindh Assembly on Sunday against the enforced disappearance of the two students but the Sindh Police stopped the protesters at Fawara Chowk near Sindh Assembly. Where the protesters staged a sit-in, the protesters later managed to cross all the barriers and reached Sindh Assembly.

Later on Sunday, the protestors temporarily called off the sit-in after the Sindh police assured the recovery of the missing students.

On Monday, the talks between the protesters and the CTD officials failed as the top police officials were not present. Due to which, the protesters tried to march towards the Chief Minister’s House. When police stopped them from proceeding, they started marching towards Sindh Assembly instead. Police then used force and arrested several protesters and shifted them to police station.

Sammi Deen, a leader of the Voice For Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) said that during the protest, Karachi police attacked and arrested all the male and female protestors. Women were disrespected and thrown barefoot into Police vans like animals. “We have been subjected to violence and abusive words, she said.

Sammi said that they were released later but many of their fellows are in the hospital due to injuries.

“We are peaceful protesters and our demands are legal and constitutional and every citizen has the right to protest in this country,” Sammi added. She said that they will never forget this cruel attitude of Sindh Police and demanded the Government of Sindh to take notice against this act.

Meanwhile on Tuesday, the student unions in Balochistan University of Quetta protested against the police brutality and arrests of protesters in Karachi. Students have also announced protests in Quetta and various parts of Balochistan against enforced disappearances.
