Leaders of the Haq Do movement have said that the Frontier Corps is still interfering with the border trade along the Iranian border, and the old system is still in place. They said that the protest organized by the Haq Do movement was called off in December last year after negotiations with the government. The government has failed to implement the promised measures.

Haq Do movement leader Maulana Hidayat Ur Rehman convened a meeting of the leaders of the movement in district Kech. Speaking at the occasion, Rehman said that the month-long protest was called off last year after negotiations with the government. He said that the Chief Minister Balochistan Quddus Bizenjo and several of his ministers gave a verbal and written commitment that the Balochistan government will alleviate the grievances of the protestors. But unfortunately, the government has once again reneged on its promises.

He said that government is unwilling to take fulfill the demands made by the Haq Do movement, like cracking down on illegal trawling in the coastal areas of Balochistan and ending the security forces’ interference in the border trade with Iran. He said that the government has devolved the responsibilities of the border trade to the district administration, but the FC is still interfering with the trade. The old listing and token systems are still in place which has made it difficult for the traders to fluently move goods and merchandise across the border. He said that the “incapable” deputy commissioner of the Makran region is to be blamed for this mess.

Rehman along with a delegation of his aides also met with Deputy Commissioner Makran Shabir Ahmed Mengal and briefed him on the issues confronting the people in the region.

Rehman said the government had ordered the reopening of the border crossing points like the Dashtak Sangawan, Mand-Dasht border, and Girok Road. The local administration must immediately follow up on the orders and reopen the crossing points.

Rehman said that if the crossing points are not opened and the token and listing system is not ended, we will carry out an indefinite protest in front of the deputy commissioner office.
