Dr Abdul Hayee, a veteran Baloch leader, passed away at the age of 76 in a tragic car accident on Friday in Bhawalpur, Punjab.

According to sources, Dr Abdul Hayee left Quetta early on Thursday morning to attend a political gathering in Hyderabad, Sindh, which was arranged by a Sindhi nationalist party.

Dr Hayee was then due to leave to Lahore for a personal engagement. However, on the way to Lahore, he met a car accident in Bhawalpur, Punjab, which resulted in his unfortunate death.

Dr Abdul Hayee was one of the founding members and the first chairman of Baloch Student’s Organisation (BSO). He was also elected as a member of Pakistan’s national assembly from Balochistan in 1970s election. He also served as president of the Balochistan National Movement and the National Party. He later formed his own political party in 2018 known as National Democratic Party (NDP).

Shortly after his death, many prominent Baloch politicians condemned his death and paid tribute to him on Twitter.

He founded the Baloch Students’ Organization and served as its first chairman. In the 1970 elections, he was elected to the National Assembly from Balochistan.”

His lifelong friend and former CM Of Balochistan Dr Abdul Malik Baloch tweeted: “Dr Abdul Hayee’s life has been full of continuous struggle, Balochistan will always be grateful for his political and social contributions.”
