Six, including three men and three women were killed in the name of honour in the span of three days.

A man and woman were killed in the name of ‘honour’ in Naseerabad district of Balochistan on Sunday. Police arrested an accused in connection with the murders. The accused identified as Tawakalli opened fire and killed a man and woman in the name of ‘honour’, Police sources said.

The accused is said to be a close relative of the victims. The accused is kept in Baba Kot police station of the district for investigation. The dead bodies were handed over to the heirs after the completion of necessary procedures.

This incident has come a day after when a man opened fire and killed a couple for love marriage in Mastung district of Balochistan. As per police reports, the accused had entered the house of the victims in the late-night and murdered them. The accused had escaped unhurt from the scene.

The couple had done a love marriage three years back and left two daughters and a minor son.

Whereas, three days back, a husband opened fire and killed his wife and nephew in the name of ‘honour’. The incident happened in Goth Faqeer Muhammad Kanrani. Police claims to have arrested the culprit and also also recovered the weapons used in the murder.

It is to mention that such incidents are rampant in the Naseerabad and Jaffarabad districts of Balochistan. Pakistan has the highest number of estimated and documented honour killings per capita in the world – about one-fifth of the world’s honour killings are performed here.

The rate of honour killings are considerably lower in Balochistan in comparison to other parts of the region, but the figure is still high, especially in district Naseerabad. The rights groups have demanded that the government must investigate such killings thoroughly and prosecute the culprits.
