At least seven people were died and several others were injured in road accidents throughout Balochistan.

According to details, a high-speed bus and a Suzuki Ravi collided near the Hor River along the Makran Coastal Highway. A woman and two children were killed in the accident and their dead bodies were moved to the Civil Hospital by the rescue personnel. In a separate incident on the same highway, a carrier van collided with a bus and a Suzuki Ravi, leaving two dead. Several others were injured and moved to the nearby Uthal Hospital.

In Balochistan’s district Washuk, a high-speed vehicle reportedly ran over a pedestrian on the CPEC route. The family members of the deceased blocked the route in protest, suspending the traffic for several hours. The road was reopened after negotiations between the family members and the district administration.

In Tehsil Wadh, Khuzdar, one man was killed and six others were critically injured in three separate accidents along the national highway.

According to some estimates, the fatal highway accidents on the “killer highways” in Balochistan have surpassed violence and insecurity. More people die on the roads annually than at the hands of criminals, militants and security forces.

The Balochistan government has made several promises to double the dangerously narrow highways throughout Balochistan, but these promises are yet to be put into practice. Until then, the “killer highways” are likely to take hundreds of other lives.
