A large number of students of Sardar Bahadur Khan (SBK) Women University staged a protest demonstration against the absence of gas, electricity and water in their hostels. Female students gathered outside the office of the university’s Vice-chancellor and chanted slogans against the administration for its failure to provide basic facilities in the hostel.

Demonstrators said that the students have been facing severe problems due to lack of gas, water and other facilities in the university hostels for several days.

“SBK administration has failed to address our basic issues”, a student protesting outside the VC’s office lamented. She said most of the students were suffering from various diseases because of chilly weather.

“None can live in these hostels in this sub-zero temperature”, she said.

The university administration closed all entry gates in the aftermath of the students’ protest inside the campus. Media and any other outsider was not being allowed to enter and cover the protest.

The students belonging to far-flung areas of Balochistan have been living in hostels of the university for a long time. The enrolment in the province’s only women university is more than 10,000 students from Quetta and other parts of Balochistan.

The students appealed to the Governor Balochistan to take notice of the protest and address the gas supply and other basic issues inside the campus. There has been no response from the Governor’s office so far.
